Stephen Cooper is a military veteran, Morehouse College graduate, and author of Beneath the Surface: A Journey Through Silence, Service, and Self-Determination. His work explores resilience, identity, fatherhood, and the process of rebuilding life after profound loss. Growing up, Stephen often felt invisible as he navigated questions of belonging, faith, and identity. Those early experiences shaped the way he understood the world and influenced the path he would later take in life. After serving in the military, Stephen faced one of the most difficult challenges of his life when the mother of his children passed away. Suddenly navigating grief while raising his children, he was forced to confront questions of purpose, strength, and what it truly means to move forward when life changes in ways you never expected. For years, Stephen carried the idea of writing a book about his experiences, but it remained just that, an idea. During his final semester at Morehouse College, he finally committed to the project. For months, he stayed up until the early hours of the morning reflecting on the moments that shaped him and putting those experiences into words. The result was Beneath the Surface, a deeply personal story about silence, resilience, identity, and the lessons learned through adversity. Through conversations on podcasts and other platforms, Stephen hopes to share the insights he gained from his journey and encourage others who may be navigating their own difficult seasons in life. He speaks about resilience, personal growth, identity, fatherhood, grief, and the power of confronting the stories we carry beneath the surface.
