During Earth Month, Miss Orlando’s Teen, Kady McKenna is turning environmental awareness into action by leading a community initiative focused on recycling electronic waste and helping close the digital divide for students in need. Electronic waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world, with millions of devices discarded every year. Through her initiative, Kady is working to collect unwanted electronics, promote responsible recycling, and support efforts to refurbish usable devices for students who lack access to reliable technology. “Technology access shouldn’t be a barrier to education,” said Kady. “By recycling and repurposing electronics, we can protect the environment while helping students succeed.” Kady’s work highlights the intersection of sustainability and education equity. Recovered devices can be refurbished and redistributed to students and families who may not have access to computers or tablets needed for school and digital learning. With April recognized as Earth Month, Kady hopes to inspire the community to rethink how they dispose of electronics and to participate in recycling efforts that benefit both the environment and local students. Kady is available for interviews, demonstrations of electronics recycling and sorting, and community events throughout Earth Month. Story angles include: • The growing environmental impact of electronic waste • Youth leadership and civic engagement • Efforts to close the digital divide in Central Florida • How families can responsibly recycle electronics
