Shea Belsky is an autistic self-advocate and changemaker. He is the Chief Technology Officer of Mentra, a hiring platform for neurodivergent jobseekers to seek gainful employment from neuroinclusive organizations. Mentra was funded in 2022 by Sam Altman (OpenAI) and Shine VC in 2023. Shea brings several unique perspectives to supporting neurodivergent colleagues: He has been the manager of neurodivergent & neurotypical employees, has reported to neurodivergent & neurotypical managers, and has advocated for the needs and wellbeing of neurodivergent & neurotypical peers. He is also a champion for accessibility in the workplace, for software, and in physical spaces. Shea is excited to share these experiences with others in order to create a more inclusive workplace for everyone.
What Matters
Running matters… We did the Boston 5K last weekend… and we’re doing a half marathon this weekend with a bunch of friends.
Pizza matters. I’m making it tonight for dinner.
Virtual reality is cool and gimmicky and exciting. It’s just not like ubiquitous in our lives yet… it’s not at the level of ChatGPT or the iPhone.
Cornell University was where I started to really become much more aware… where I feel like I’m okay, I can thrive.
Autism has a lot of different representations… We are all unique individuals with unique sets of support needs, unique strengths, and a uniqueness about us throughout the world that we live in.
Everybody at some point in their lives is going to either have a disability or will be very close to somebody who is… becoming more inclusive and more accessible is a universal problem.
What I’ve been doing… is educating people in ways that they understand… not just me telling people ‘this is about me,’ but going a step further—this is why it matters.
