Founding spatial health practitioner helping you understand the science behind how childhood trauma is preventing you from washing the dishes.
Born in Baltimore, MD, and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Shanon Williams-Hughes graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in social work. With extensive experience in counseling, advocacy, and program development, she has founded and co-founded several impactful projects and organizations. Shanon is the founder of Self Care Housekeeping, the nation’s only spatial health and wellness service offering trauma-informed housekeeping and skill-building services. Through this work, she pioneered Spatial Health and Wellness, a therapeutic treatment modality that focuses on whole-network health. This innovative approach connects the quality of a person’s physical infrastructure—such as their home, workspace, and community environment—to their mental, emotional, and physical well-being. By addressing environmental stressors and fostering functional, supportive spaces, Spatial Health and Wellness provides actionable strategies to improve overall health and resilience, emphasizing that the condition of our spaces directly influences how we think, feel, and function. In 2010, Shanon began facilitating mediation on a case-by-case basis, eventually co-founding the Sacred Ground Collective, a mediation collective dedicated to fostering understanding, collaboration, and resolution within communities and organizations. In 2020, she expanded her efforts to include human-centered training concepts and consulting on wellness, organizational conflict, and spatial health. Shanon also founded The Narrative Justice, a group dedicated to empowering marginalized voices and holding mainstream media accountable, and The Wellness Collective, a mutual aid collective designed to address societal infrastructure gaps. The Wellness Collective offers programs such as Mental Wellness Speed Dating, MOMS Virtual Assistants, the Community Delivery Hotline, Legal Assistance, and the forthcoming By Any Beans Necessary Mobile Cafe and Market. Through her innovative work, Shanon Williams-Hughes is redefining holistic wellness, social justice, and community empowerment, creating lasting impact at the intersections of advocacy, healing, and systemic change.
