Rabbinic Chaplain Chaya Lerner received ordination from the Aleph Ordination Program in 2021. She is the president of the Rabbinic Pastors Association. Reb Chaya Lerner's journey is a testament to resilience and compassion, deeply rooted in her family's history of survival and her extensive experience in social work. She has studied ancient Jewish texts for many years as a layperson and as a seminary student. With a solid educational foundation in psychology, social work, and Jewish text, she has dedicated her career to supporting vulnerable populations, particularly those affected by trauma. Her early work with AIDS patients during the crisis of the late 80s and early 90s reflects her commitment to helping those in need, followed by a significant role at Jewish Community Services, where she provided vital support to Holocaust survivors. Transitioning to private practice allowed her to offer personalized care to adult clients, further expanding her impact. Chaya's ordination as a Rabbinic Pastor and her role as a responder during the tragic collapse of the Champlain Towers highlights her leadership and dedication in times of crisis. Her book, Torah of Trauma, aims to bridge ancient wisdom with modern healing practices, offering insights into the intersection of faith and trauma recovery. Living in Miami with her long-time partner and their cat, Sweetie and dog Bella, Chaya embodies a blend of professional expertise and personal warmth, contributing to her community in profound ways.
