I found my ex-wife’s diary years after it was written. In it, she described being unhappy and regretting our marriage long before anything actually broke. We still stayed together, built a life, and had a child. Later, after everything ended, I was seen as the one responsible. That’s what led me to write “The Diary” — a story about how things often begin long before the moment people blame.
