I'm the Winner of PBS's The Great American Recipe, a food blogger and recipe developer with expertise in Mexican food and culture

Growing up in Mexico surrounded by generations of family recipes and food traditions, Silvia developed an early passion for cooking that would eventually lead her to become one of the most influential voices in Mexican-American culinary content. By age 14, she became her family's official chef—a role she maintained even while studying Industrial Relations, returning home weekends to prepare meals for the entire week ahead. After moving to the United States and settling in California's Central Coast with her husband, Silvia recognized the importance of preserving her culinary heritage for her children. In 2009 she launched mamalatinatips.com, a bilingual platform initially focused on motherhood that evolved into a celebrated resource for authentic Mexican recipes and bicultural living. What began as documenting family recipes that had never been written down became a lifeline for many Mexican-Americans seeking to reconnect with their food heritage. Silvia's expertise caught the attention of major brands like Cheerios and General Mills, who hired her to create Mexican-inspired recipes featuring their products. Her influence earned recognition as Latism's Bilingual Influencer of the Year and a spot among Latina Magazine's Top 10 Best Latina Mommy Bloggers. In 2022, Silvia's culinary journey reached new heights when she was crowned the winner of PBS' The Great American Recipe. Throughout the competition, she showcased 18 different dishes across 8 episodes, including creative fusions like tri-tip tacos with avocado salsa verde that beautifully blended her Mexican roots with her California home. Her victory was particularly meaningful as an immigrant cooking traditional Mexican food on a show called "The Great American Recipe" – a powerful statement about the multicultural fabric of American cuisine. Today, Silvia runs Mama Latina Tips Media, sharing treasured family recipes like pozole, teleras and tres leches cake and educating audiences about Mexican cultural celebrations. "It's a great honor that people trust me to give them recipes that unite them with family or create new connections," Silvia shares. When not creating content, Silvia enjoys cafecito with friends, beach walks, board games with her kids, and planning colorful fiestas—all experiences that inform her warm, authentic approach to sharing Mexican food and traditions with the world.
